Tuesday 28th March, 2006 Pharmaceutical Industry delegates learn successful recipes

Individuals from the Pharmaceutical Industry and Academia attended the “Recipes for Success” workshop earlier this month. Participants were introduced to how Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques are transforming the process of developing and manufacturing medicines.

The workshop included comprehensive theory sessions introducing AI as a concept and describing software tools and technologies available to solve challenges faced in the Pharmaceutical Industry. Participants were also given the hands-on opportunity to apply this AI knowledge by interacting with the AI software to find solutions to the formulation and manufacturing challenges that were presented to them in the form of case studies.

Delegates from AstraZeneca, 3M and Nektar all found the interactive sessions to be useful in understanding how AI can be applied to solve real-life challenges that they face in Industry. Whilst the delegates from the University of Strathclyde and the University of Bradford found the research work being carried out in AI of most use to them.
