Monday 6th October, 2003 City firm hopes for new business

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation (IPI), a spin-out company from the University of Bradford, is one of six local firms taking a place on the Yorkshire Forward-sponsored stand at the CPhl Worldwide exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany.

The multi-million pound research unit, which aims to dramatically reduce the time it takes to bring drug compounds to market, is hoping to win new customers at the world’s leading pharmaceutical ingredients manufacturing event.

Dr Ian Scowen, business associate at the University of Bradford’s school of life sciences, said IPI demonstrated why Yorkshire’s 4.3 million chemical industry had been so successful.

“The approach taken by the University of Bradford and facilities such as IPI demonstrates that academia and industry can not only work side by side, but forge successful business and research partnerships and generate new streams of revenue,” he said.

The number of university spin-out companies in the sector is expected to be bolstered by a new 11 million Yorkshire Forward Centres of Industrial Collaboration initiative.
