Monday 30th January, 2006 Bradford experts train Europe’s pharmaceutical regulators

The University of Bradford’s Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation (IPI) hosted a pan-European training programme for 45 pharmaceutical drug regulators last week.

The IPI, in collaboration with the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Scientists (EUFEPS), recently won a Europe-wide tender to develop a course for the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicines in the innovative field of Process Analytical Technology (PAT).

PAT is being adopted by pharmaceutical manufacturing operations in order to improve the quality of medicines by monitoring products during manufacture rather than testing selected batches after production.

The programme, which will take place between Monday 23 and Wednesday 25 January 2006 at the IPI (on the main campus of the University), will see regulators attending from around 30 European countries. It has been organised under the direction of Professor Peter York, Chairman of the EUFEPS PAT Committee, and Dr Ian Scowen, Director of the University of Bradford’s Analytical Centre.

Paul Thorning, Director of the IPI, said: “This programme will further enhance the reputation of IPI as a hub for advances in international pharmaceutical science.

“Implementation of PAT is crucial for the pharmaceutical industry, and this course will help those charged with ensuring the safety of medicines regulate the changes that are happening in the industry.”

The IPI will be hosting a parallel programme for industrial scientists later this year. If you are intersted in attending please contact Lory Tavares (+44 1274 236152 – )
