Tuesday 26th July, 2005 University's 2.4m boost for business

Efforts to ensure university research is used to benefit local firms plus the creation of more start-up businesses by graduates will be helped by the award of the funding through the Higher Education Innovation Fund.

Bradford received a big share of the 18 million handed out to Yorkshire universities. And its growing links with the business community have been singled out as a major factor in its success.

Tuesday 26th July, 2005 Another leading Professor working with the Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation

The University welcomes Professor Anwar back to where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy before he went on to Birkbeck College London to do his PhD in Crystallography.

Jamshed Anwar has come from Kings College London where he was a Reader in Computational Pharmaceutical Sciences. During his career at King’s, he also spent sabbatical periods at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, and the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Physics (AMOLF) in Amsterdam. Prior to his academic career he spent 5 years in industry at Glaxo Group Research (now GSK).

Tuesday 26th July, 2005 IPI hosts national biopharmaceuticals strategy workshop

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation (IPI), based at the University of Bradford, hosted the “The Challenges of Improving the Formulation and Delivery of Biopharmaceuticals” workshop on behalf of bioProcessUK, a part of the BioIndustry Association and a DTI-funded Knowledge Transfer Network, on Thursday 9th June 2005.

The aim of the conference was to ensure that the research funding dedicated to biotechnology and pharmaceuticals in the country is focussed in the correct areas in order to sustain and increase the UKs global competitiveness in this industry. The event was organised by bioProcessUK, and sponsored by the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), Yorkshire Forward and the University of Bradford. Over 50 expert formulators and academics from the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry attended the full day event to address key problems in biopharmaceutical formulation and delivery.

Tuesday 26th July, 2005 Incubator Manager at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation

The incubator facility on the fourth floor of the IPI was constructed to assist and develop bioscience start-up companies in the Yorkshire and Humber region. In 2004 funding was obtained from a HEIF2 grant to support the appointment of an Incubator Manager for biosciences activity within the region.
