The Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation (IPI) Research Focus Group brings together University scientists within a programme that addresses key areas of pharmaceutical research.
The research mission of the IPI is to apply a focussed, multidisciplinary approach to address fundamental and technological challenges in drug delivery and the performance of medicines. Our overall ambition is to accelerate the drug development process and improve the performance of existing and new medicines. Realising this ambition has necessitated an increasing focus on a molecular understanding with a shift away from empirical approaches, requiring the integration of advanced molecular-level experimental and computational approaches. In establishing this capability in ‘molecular pharmaceutics’ the IPI has assembled a team of exceptional breadth bringing together expertise from a range of scientific disciplines (e.g. quantum chemistry, nanotechnology, biophysics, pharmaceutical sciences, computing, and analytical science) working across length scales spanning from the molecular, nano and mesoscopic to product manufacture.
The IPI research is grouped into 2 clusters, covering areas of clear purpose identified against IPI’s core strengths and future ambitions. The IPI clusters are (i)Computational and Molecular Pharmaceutics and (ii) Analytics, Bioanalytics and Performance of Medicines.
The research group is led by Professor Peter York and currently comprises 22 academics, 55 postgraduate students, 10 postdoctoral researchers, 3 research assistants and technicians. Group_Photo_IPI_Researchers.pdf
The IPI also runs a Seminar Series programme inviting key academics world wide to present latest research findings at the IPI.
We are proud to announce our collaboration with Avant-garde Materials Simulation (AMS) in the area of crystal structure prediction.
