The area covers computer-aided analytical science for pre-clinical assessment of drug performance in the drug development process. Investigations include examination of fundamental physico-chemical properties of drugs, including solubility prediction and apparent pKa values of drugs and related substances in aqueous-mixed solvents. In method development for separation science, investigations are being carried out to predict electrophoretic mobilities in capillary electrophoresis and retention times in HPLC – leading to reduced time commitment in the development phase.
In biomedical analysis, programmes include the development of inhaler therapy and examination of controlled particle-sized drugs and their pharmacokinetic profiles, including volunteer trials.
