Clinical pharmaceutics

Research programmes in the IPI focus on the development of novel delivery systems, and the improvement of existing delivery technologies. Internationally recognised studies include the therapeutics of inhaled drugs addressing:

  • The in vitro characteristics of inhaled products/ methods
  • Lung deposition of inhaled drugs using pharmacokinetic methods and correlation of these variables to pharmacodynamic endpoints and to in vitro characteristics of the emitted dose
  • The bioequivalence of inhaled products, methods and inhalation techniques.

Therapeutic areas cover the management of asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis.

Modelling activities in the IPI seek to improve understanding of the interrelationship of diseases and their etiology, therapeutic agents, delivery mechanisms and patient population characteristics.
